Telecoms follow rest of U.S. market higher; Nortel leads
WASHINGTON (MarketWatch) - Vodafone Group plc, Nortel Networks Corp. and Motorola Inc. led telecommunications stocks broadly higher in Friday trades as U.S. markets basked in the glow of positive economic data on inflation and falling prices of crude oil. Vodafone gained 2% in recent action, as did Motorola . Nortel was up 2.5%. Discount wireless phone operator Leap Wireless International Inc. was the only decliner, off 1%.

U.K. Wireless tech supplier CSR today announced that Agilent Technologies and Spirent Communications are joining CSR and Motorola in the EGPS Forum, an open industry forum for evaluating and fostering enhanced GPS (EGPS) technologies. Working with CSR, Agilent and Spirent have created a single system that can simulate both GPS and cellular signals, CSR said.
