Wrath Of The Lich King Sets One Day Sales Record
Wrath Of The Lich King Sets One Day Sales Record
November 21, 2008 6:00 AM
Blizzard Entertainment has announced that World of Warcrafts second expansion, Wrath of the Lich King, sold more than 2.8 million copies in its first 24 hours of availability, making it the fastest-selling PC game of all time. This eclipses the previous record of nearly 2.4 million copies sold in 24 hours, set in January 2007 by Blizzards first World of Warcraft expansion, The Burning Crusade.
Were grateful for the incredible support that players around the world have continued to show for World of Warcraft, said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. Wrath of the Lich King contains some of the best content weve created for the game so far, and we look forward to seeing even more players log in to experience it in the days ahead.
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King surpassed all sales expectations, with 100 Gamestation stores opening at midnight to cater for a high level of demand, said Andrew Thompson, product director, Gamestation UK. Players queued for hours - some dressed as characters from the game - proving that enthusiasm for Blizzard Entertainments latest installment is at its highest level to date.”

Mobile game sales are "flatlining", says report
Mobile game sales are "flatlining", says report
A new Juniper research report has stated that despite increased interest in mobile gaming, sales of games have “flatlined across North America and Western Europe”.
The total retail value of the mobile gaming market is expected to almost double in the next 5 years from $5.4 billion USD to $10 billion USD however “limited on-portal revenue share for publishers is driving some away from the sector and poor games marketing fails to capture customer attention.”
“The revenue share offered by Apple to games publishers is incredibly attractive,” said Dr Windsor Holden, author of the report, speaking about how iPhone gaming has helped bring increased interest to the market.
“The danger is that if operators do not respond with a similar business model, publishers faced with low margins may simply exit Java completely, thereby reducing consumer choice in the longer term.”

Games “come of age on the iPhone 3G”
“Watch out, Nintendo. This game is just getting started,” warns Dean Takahashi (venturebeat.com). “Thanks to the multi-touch display, great sound, good graphics, and the accelerometer-based tilt feature,” iPhone 3G offers serious competition as a prime gaming device. To wit: Apple has “had more than 200 million downloads from its App Store since the store debuted in July.”
